At the request of any boat owner, a qualified member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will provide an examination of a boat and its equipment.

This examination is FREE to the boat owner, and can be preformed whether the boat is in the water or on land.  The exam usually takes no more than an hour, depending on the size of the vessel.  The owner must be present during the exam and provide documentation papers.

The purpose of the exam is to ensure that the vessel meets all federal and state requirements for its is of the correct type and in good working condition.  The exam is voluntary and no citations are given.  The examiner will also answer any questions concerning the equipment and vessel operations.

A vessel that meets all legal requirements for its size and type, will be awarded a decal which is good for one year.
